Hello UNE Zoology Enthusiasts, We are thrilled to announce our second event for 2026, Meet the Lecturers! This event is your chance to become familiar with lecturers you will encounter during your first year and throughout the rest of your time at UNE, ask your burning questions, and connect with fellow students. Blue Hole BBQ and Spotlighting

On Friday 27th February, the UNE Zoology Society will be holding our first spotlighting event of the year!   Meet us from 6pm at the Natural History Museum to carpool to Blue Hole! If you are unable to carpool, meet us at Blue Hole at 6:30pm. When we arrive, there will be a BBQ for dinner before we set off all together at 7:45pm. We will aim to be returning to the Natural History Museum around 10-10:15pm.   There's no need for fancy equipment, we will supply head torches, but there is a limited number of these so if you have your own, please bring it along! Please dress warmly with appropriate clothes and wear good, comfy shoes.   Your ticket is only confirmed once you have received a confirmation email from the UNE Zoology Society, not just a tax invoice from UNELife. Once you have added your ticket to your cart, ensure you follow the rest of the checkout steps to make sure you complete your "purchase". If you are unsure if you have confirmed your place on the trip, please email the Zoology Society.    Some fauna we are likely to see include: Koalas Possums Kangaroos Variety of birds Microbats Native Frogs Variety of lizards and herps Variety of inverts For those who don't have their own transport to make their way out to Blue Hole, there will be a bus with limited space. However, we will also be allocating those without transport to people with spare seats in their cars. Please select the appropriate option according to your transport situation. Make sure you RSVP by 7pm, on Thursday 26th February (the day before the event) to secure your spot! If you have dietary requirements, please let us know in your RSVP.

🐾 UNE Zoology Society AGM – Have Your Say, Shape Our Future! 🐾 It’s that time of year again – the Annual General Meeting is coming up on Thursday 2nd October at 6:30pm! Think of it as a big team huddle (but with less running and more zoology) where we celebrate the past year, share ideas, and elect our President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer for 2026. Nominations for committee member positions are also open! Nominations are now open – so if you’ve been dreaming of steering the society into its next adventure, now’s your chance to throw your hat (or safari hat) in the ring! Nominate here! We’ll be meeting online so you can join from the comfort of your home – whether that’s your desk, your couch, or under a blanket fort. De-Extinction Discussion: UNE Zoology Society X UNE Geoscience Society

Can we bring a species back from extinction, and more importantly, should we?   📅 Friday, 4 July ⏰ 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM (AEST) 📍 Online via Zoom and on campus at the EM1 Lecture Theatre, Natural Resource Building (W055) 🎫 FREE- all welcome!   Whether you're a student, researcher, or simply curious about the future of conservation, join the UNE Zoology Society and UNE Geoscience Society for a thought-provoking panel discussion on de-extinction.   From dire wolves to wooly mice, bringing back the thylacine and the dodo, this topic is more prevalent than ever. We sit down with some leading experts on the topic to discuss not only the science of de-extinction, but the ethics of the process too.   If joining in person at the Armidale Campus, keep the conversation going after the panel with nibbles and drinks and the chance to meet one on one with panellist Dr Tommy Leung!
